Carnival Hunters focuses on fitness
A new and exciting event is being added to the Carnival 2013 calendar—Carnival Hunters. Carnival Hunters, which will be held on January 20 in the Queen’s Park Savannah, will include a scavenger hunt, a health and wellness expo and a cultural festival.
A press release from the event’s organisers My Team Events, said the event will be “an enjoyable, health-conscious, team building experience, all with the aim of raising funds for charity”. Two categories of teams will compete in the Carnival Hunters event which will require participants to solve clues, complete tasks and conquer an obstacle course around the Savannah. The open category for the event will comprise any interested patrons including masqueraders, gym enthusiasts, students, youth groups, companies and clubs. The prize for the winning team in this category is $10,000. The Carnival Team category will include members of mas bands, steelbands, fete producers, radio stations and steelbands who will compete for trophies and up to $20,000 in cash to donate to the charity of their choice.
Patrons at the event can benefit from free screening tests for blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and HIV/Aids as well as eye examinations. Adults and children who are not registered to participate in the scavenger hunt can take part in and can also be part of the rigorous aerobics and cycling activities and partake in the healthy food and drinks available at the Savannah.
My Team Events said its goal is to create exciting memories by producing events that foster a spirit of camaraderie and strengthen the bonds of friendship. My Team Events event coordinator Kenyon Champion said in the press release that the aim was to “to add a different element to the Carnival season within all the fetes and all inclusives.” He described Carnival Hunters as, “a Carnival-themed event that is challenging, competitive, fitness and health oriented, team building and will raise money for charity.”
Soca, calypso, steelpan and tassa music will fill the Queen's Park Savannah throughout the event which begins at 10 am and ends at 6 pm. Traditional Carnival characters and carnival costume displays will also help to foster the spirit of the season.
• Registration ends on January 15 and My Team Events urges interested individuals and groups to register as soon as possible. For further information, call 374-5654 or visit the Carnival Hunters page on facebook at www.facebook.com/CarnivalHuntersTT
