Artists Guy Beckles, Embah and Althea Bastien will join members of the Arts Society of Trinidad and Tobago (ASTT) to show their work at the ASTT's annual May exhibition, this year entitled Belle Eau (Beautiful Water). The exhibition will take place at the ASTT, Federation Park, Port-of-Spain, from May 16-25.Belle Eau celebrates the United Nations Year for Water Conservation and exhibitors have been asked to create a piece in keeping with this theme.
The work of four urban artists–Darren Cheewah, JAP, Nick Salloum and Danielle Boodoo-Fortune–will also be featured. They have been invited to display on the exterior of the building. The artists will begin their paintings at the show's opening so patrons can experience the work as it progresses and get a first-hand view of how urban art is created.
The pieces will be done on plywood, so potential buyers are encouraged to bid as they progress, with the final bidding taking place upon completion of the works. To this end, the ASTT hopes to bring young, new emerging artists and art lovers to the organisation. As part of their mandate to educate the public on art and the history of art in T&T, they will also include as part of the exhibition their second talk in the series "Conversations with the Elders" on May 18.
The panel will include Embah, Peter Minshall and Althea Bastien to talk about art from the 60s and 70s.
