On May 11, William Munro host­ed a grad­u­a­tion cer­e­mo­ny for the fifth cy­cle of par­tic­i­pants in the youth pro­gramme which is run from his Moses Av­enue, San Juan home.Col­lab­o­rat­ing with life skills tu­tors and Ronald Nathan, a youth de­vel­op­ment con­sul­tant, the pro­gramme in­struct­ed more than 50 stu­dents in anger man­age­ment, con­flict res­o­lu­tion, fi­nan­cial lit­er­a­cy, prac­tic­ing non-vi­o­lence, na­tion­al pride and build­ing self-es­teem.

An­oth­er high­light of the pro­gramme was swim­ming, which was taught in a 25-me­tre pool in Munro's back­yard.The pro­gramme cen­tered on youth de­vel­op­ment for the chil­dren of the San Juan/Laven­tille com­mu­ni­ty and in­clud­ed swim­ming as a high­ly tout­ed ac­tiv­i­ty for blend­ing dis­ci­pline with fun.The ac­tiv­i­ties linked to­geth­er were an im­me­di­ate suc­cess es­pe­cial­ly with the par­ents for whom safe­ty was of para­mount con­sid­er­a­tion.

Wendy Fitzwilliam, Miss Uni­verse 1998 ad­dressed the grad­u­ates with a pre­sen­ta­tion that drew on her per­son­al ex­pe­ri­ences. It was well re­ceived by the grad­u­ates who ex­pressed plea­sure in her pres­ence.An­oth­er well de­liv­ered mo­ti­va­tion­al speech was giv­en by swim­ming in­struc­tor Mar­tin James, who spoke pas­sion­ate­ly about the growth and tran­si­tion he saw in many of his stu­dents over the ten week pe­ri­od.

Min­is­ter of State in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter Rodger Samuel, urged the chil­dren to be pos­i­tive and con­sci­en­tious in their en­deav­ours. His ap­proach was in­ter­est­ing and held the at­ten­tion of all present.
