On May 11, William Munro hosted a graduation ceremony for the fifth cycle of participants in the youth programme which is run from his Moses Avenue, San Juan home.Collaborating with life skills tutors and Ronald Nathan, a youth development consultant, the programme instructed more than 50 students in anger management, conflict resolution, financial literacy, practicing non-violence, national pride and building self-esteem.
Another highlight of the programme was swimming, which was taught in a 25-metre pool in Munro's backyard. The programme centered on youth development for the children of the San Juan/Laventille community and included swimming as a highly touted activity for blending discipline with fun.The activities linked together were an immediate success especially with the parents for whom safety was of paramount consideration.
Wendy Fitzwilliam, Miss Universe 1998 addressed the graduates with a presentation that drew on her personal experiences. It was well received by the graduates who expressed pleasure in her presence.Another well delivered motivational speech was given by swimming instructor Martin James, who spoke passionately about the growth and transition he saw in many of his students over the ten week period.
Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister Rodger Samuel, urged the children to be positive and conscientious in their endeavours. His approach was interesting and held the attention of all present.
