As it was last year, wedding invitations will continue to become more customised in 2013. More attention will be given to the "receptacle" of the invitation–whether it's in an opulent envelope, pouch or box.
Here are some more invitation ideas that are trending right now:Colours–This year invitation hues will focus on neutrals such as grey and navy. Pops of colour such as yellow and coral will accent these neutrals. The Pantone Colour Institute's selection for 2013, is emerald green. This shade will be seen either as an accent or a main colour on invitations. Other popular colours will be jade, mint and copper.
The "East Meets West" theme will also be trendy; and so we will see gemstone colours on invitations, with combinations such as teal and purple together, or orange and fuchsia."Container-happy"–In 2013, the containers that invitations arrive in will perhaps be even more luxe than the invitation itself! Silk envelopes and fabric boxes that hold invitations are hot trends at the moment.
There will even be couples who will want to try a "storybook" invitation–featuring their love story, bound in a book form. This would be ideal for a destination wedding, where details such as travel tips and accommodation can also be housed in the story book.Textures galore–The touch and feel of invitations this year will be sure to delight the senses. Woven paper, lace elements, laser cut details (which can replicate lace, floral, nature or ironwork patterns) and the use of embellishments such as crystal brooches and buckles will be seen.
Retro 1920s–The 1920s is a huge influencer on design styles this year. You will see hints of it through the use of floral motifs and bold, geometric shapes and lines. Designs such as the sunburst pattern and chevron (a zigzag repetitive pattern) which were widely used during the 1920s, will also appear on invitations. Colours that evoke this era are soft pinks, champagne, gold, ivory, black and white.
Details–Invitations will be accented with hand-drawn details, unusual fonts, patterned invitation liners, foil stamping and motifs such as silhouettes of the couple, buildings or the horizon. Custom monograms will continue to be popular.
