The Rus­sell Lat­apy Sec­ondary School in Mor­vant copped $10,000 in the An­gos­tu­ra "Cre­ate Your Dream Eco-friend­ly Home" poster com­pe­ti­tion. The awards cer­e­mo­ny was held at the House of An­gos­tu­ra on World En­vi­ron­ment Day, June 5.Suc­cess Laven­tille Sec­ondary School won both the $5,000 sec­ond prize and the $3,000 third prize.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from An­gos­tu­ra Ltd, the com­pe­ti­tion was a cor­po­rate so­cial re­spon­si­bil­i­ty ini­tia­tive by the com­pa­ny. The poster com­pe­ti­tion re­quired Forms Four and Five sec­ondary stu­dents from the Laven­tille/Mor­vant area to cre­ate eco-friend­ly homes us­ing de­signs that must be re­al­is­tic. They were al­lowed to use many en­vi­ron­men­tal or "green" ini­tia­tives as pos­si­ble. Both in­di­vid­ual and group en­tries were al­lowed. The com­pe­ti­tion was judged by Vidia Per­sad-Dood­nath, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor, tech­ni­cal ser­vices at An­gos­tu­ra Ltd and Cheryl Blanc of Hori­zons Art Gallery.

Rus­sell Lat­apy had two in­di­vid­ual en­tries with the win­ning poster and repli­ca of the eco-friend­ly house made by Moe­sha Ben­jamin and guid­ed by her art teacher Mr Pierre. Suc­cess Laven­tille Sec­ondary had two group en­tries and one in­di­vid­ual.The stu­dents were guid­ed by Mrs Boodas­ingh and Ms Grif­fith. The prizes for Most Cre­ative and the use of Most num­ber of Green El­e­ments were won by Suc­cess Laven­tille. All stu­dents who par­tic­i­pat­ed re­ceived an LLB ham­per from the com­pa­ny.
