Sixty years ago, a woman who believed that the spoken word is a gift, decided to launch a programme to help speakers of English use this gift as a means of improving self-confidence as well as making communication more effective. Her institution based in England is called The English Speaking Board (ESB).
Today as San Fernando TML looks back at 60 years of great progress and invaluable contributions to our society, the ESB is also celebrating its 60th anniversary.
It is therefore no coincidence that San Fernando TML was selected as the first primary school in the Caribbean to pilot the ESB programme.
A release from San Fernando TML said the school continues to excel, as five children from this school, Kaylee Ali-Mohammed, Ra'eesah Ali, Rayshard Hosein, Amaarah Hosein and Mikaeel Ali (the youngest of the group) were each recently awarded the first international certificate with distinction of its kind for speaking clearly and audibly in a presentation using a visual aid, reciting poetry with expression and reading an extract from their favourite novel.
The youngest ESB awardee, Mikaeel Ali, claims "I enjoyed learning how to speak in front of people."
Lynda Banks-Khan, sole facilitator of the ESB in T&T complimented the students on their high achievement at a school assembly where she reiterated that with ESB "Every Student Benefits".
San-Fernando TML has one of the highest performing primary education systems in T&T said the release.
John F Kennedy once said, "The future of our nation can be no swifter than the progress of our education. The human mind is our fundamental resource."
The release further added that principal, Camille Hosein, and teachers are truly leaders in education who are anchored on a strong and sound educational philosophy.
They have a deep conviction of the critical importance of education, not only in the student's life but also in the development of human capital.
Hosein's excellent leadership has helped steer this school to what it is today–respected and renowned. San Fernando TML identity is marked not only by its academic achievements, but also in other co-curricular pursuits, such as sports, music, art and drama.
When anyone thinks of this school, they think all-round excellence, the hallmark of San Fernando TML.
