Last week, I wrote about pop-art-themed weddings as one of the hot trends for 2014. Another popular theme this year will be the "enchanted forest."This theme reminds me of a book series–The Faraway Tree–by Enid Blyton, which I read long ago. The book is a set of stories about a majestic, magical tree that leads the characters up its branches, where they have wonderful adventures and meet fantastical creatures. It is exactly this type of whimsy and magical feeling that the enchanted forest theme should evoke at your wedding.Another way you can get a visual for this theme is to try looking at the landscape of the Lothlrien forest from the movie, The Lord of the Rings. This type of theme suits the bohemian bride very well, the outdoorsy couple, or the bride who is intrigued by fairy tales in a woodland setting. How can we utilise such a North American type of theme here in T&T?
It's actually quite easy, given our type of vegetation and climate. Think about developing an enchanted forest theme by using the following:
2 Ferns: The use of fern leaves, vines and tendrils can be incorporated as a design element on your invitations and stationery, or as part of your backdrop or dcor.
2 Wooden accents: Slices of tree bark, twigs, pine cones, bird houses, wooden signage and grapevine wreaths would look striking against more delicate accents like crochet, feathers or lace.
2 Floral garlands: Strung about or hung vertically from the ceiling, these will add a bit of "fairyland" to your wedding.
2 Moss monograms: These are letters which are cut out of floral foam or wood and covered with moss. A moss monogram may be a good focal point for your backdrop, or to highlight your dessert table, or as a showstopper for your escort card table.
2 Wildflowers: In your bouquet, or as part of your centrepiece.
2 Bohemian-inspired gowns: Wedding gowns for this theme should incorporate floral motifs in the form of three-dimensional flowers, embroidery or beading. One designer who specialises in gowns with this type of aesthetic is Claire Pettibone; another resource you can check is the Web site www.bhldn.com
2 Flower crowns: For your flower girls, or jeweled browbands for your bridesmaids.
2 Favours: These should also be nature-inspired–think about bottles of honey, plantable seed paper favours, or lavender sprigs tied with fabric ribbon.
