Among the many areas/aspects of mental health or health advocacy in general that has received a vibrant voice, an active stand against discrimination, and a mechanism for reducing ignorance, is autism. There is still an abundance of unawareness about the developmental disorder, but global advocacy presents sufficient resources worldwide for education on the spectrum.Today marks the end of Autism Month, which is observed in April following the UN-designated World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), back in 2007, with the first observance of WAAD in April 2008. This is just the end of the public observances because those who serve the autistic community are indefatigable in their purpose.Simply stated, "Autism is a developmental disability that remains with a person for his or her whole life. This condition affects the brain's functions. The first signs usually appear before a child is three years old.
