In tribute to ANR Robinson, Habitat for Humanity T&T (HFHTT) wishes to add to the long list of accolades his distinguished tenure as patron of the organisation from 2001 to 2003.In 2001, then president, Robinson accepted a petition from HFHTT, submitted by chairman Mitra Attai, to become the first patron of Habitat for Humanity's local chapter, established in 1997.Robinson would come to lend the weight and resources of his office to the efforts of the still young organisation, a release from HFHTT said.In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Habitat for Humanity (International) in August 2001, the then newly-appointed HFHTT patron led the T&T's World Leaders Build event held in Guaico, Tamana.
This week-long activity saw several leading public figures visit and take part in the construction of four homes along one street, subsequently named Habitat Street. In the spirit of volunteerism, Robinson joined in the painting of Ann-Marie Thomas' home.Thomas was one of the recipients of HFHTT's first four homes in Trinidad, and represented one of two families who received their keys from Robinson. His patronage led the way for an agreement for his successor, Prof George Maxwell Richards, to continue the tradition of support to the local chapter's mission of advocating for the eradication of homelessness.HFHTT salutes this outstanding son of the soil for his demonstrated commitment to strengthening the organisation's reputation, and supporting its cause to provide decent shelter for all.
