Most of Sherina Hosein-Mohammed's career background is deeply rooted in the corporate world. She has served locally in senior management positions at several organisations in the business sector. She is currently doing the same in Dubai, where she has lived for almost four years, working in the areas of finance, project development and education. However, she recently completed her first novel, a goal she has had since graduating from university.
The novel titled Code Seven Book One: The New World Order, is about fantasy that may indulge one's curiosity about the possibilities of other worlds and of having a portal between different worlds where people can meet each other. The book she says, appeals to adults, teenagers and even avid readers between the ages of eight and nine.
Asked why she chose to write such a book, Hosein-Mohammed said for as long as she could recall, she has always been happiest when immersed in good fantasy, adventure and science fiction novels.
"I have worked in corporate life since leaving university and most of my life has been preoccupied by work. I figured at a certain age, I had to do something about my first love, which is writing. That is when I decided that I was actually going to start writing a series of novels on adventure and fantasy–genres I absolutely enjoy," said the 47-year-old.
But this was not easy for the mother of two, who had to juggle family life and her very demanding jobs, while writing the novel.
"This was the biggest challenge mentally because when I got the time or opportunity to switch off work, I actually needed to rest to stimulate my mind before I could write. Most of the times I did my writing at the tail-end of my weekend, sometimes at nights, in three or four-hour slots, sometimes two, when I felt my creative juices were running low, or when I took a half or a full day off from work," said Hosein-Mohammed
Having excellent domestic help was also important to the author to ensure the management of her home was intact which ultimately allowed her the time for writing.
The San Juan native was able to eventually complete her novel over two years. With a certificate in creative writing obtained when she lived in England, Hosein-Mohammed intends to write a series of five novels on Code Seven.
