Ever thought about Mount Gay Silver rum paired with dill and tomato soup served with a lemon herb scone? Well that's how dining started when Hadco hosted a Mount Gay Rums Storied Dinner at Aioli, Ellerslie Plaza, Maraval on October 15.The occasion also served to launch the Mount Gay's newest blend, Mount Gay Black Barrel.Mount Gay Rum is produced by Mount Gay Distillers Ltd of Barbados, and according to Wikipedia, the oldest surviving deed for the company is from 1703, making Mount Gay Rum the oldest existing brand of rum in the world.
Invited for the food and rum pairing experience were a handful of media representatives who received a warm welcome to the occasion from John Hadad, executive chairman of the Hadco Group and Nikkita Romain, brand manager for Mount Gay Rums.Aioli's executive chef John Aboud prepared an appetiser of curried chicken liver pat� with cognac simmered red onion marmalade and herbed crostinis which was enjoyed with Mount Gay Eclipse.
Mount Gay international brand ambassador Chester Browne introduced diners to the Mount Gay Extra Old which was paired with top sirloin with grilled asparagus, smoked tomato chutney, grilled prawns, bone marrow and blue cheese butter.The evening was not just about treating the taste buds, however. Browne told a few rum stories and invited his guests to tell their own stories. As expected, some story tellers distinguished themselves more than others.
After the storytelling, executive chef John Aboud and his staff served Indian spiced chicken with mango salsa and pappadom crisps paired with Mount Gay Black Barrel.The night ended with a desert of Mount Gay 1703 with Aioli's vanilla ice-cream, fresh raspberries, maple glazed pecans.
