Dressing up to attend Christmas and Year-End functions can now be enhanced with the arrival of M�A�C's new Holiday line of makeup, "The Christmas Line."
The latest line arrived in M�A�C's outlets throughout T&T recently.
Prior to its arrival, there was a launch and demonstration done by one of M�A�C's senior artist, Gisel Calvillo at M�A�C's very spacious and attractive outlet at the Falls at Westmall, West Moorings.
Invited guests were treated to wine and finger foods while they waited in anticipation for Calvillo's demo. All in attendance were given the first-hand and close up experience to witness the beautiful, shining and shimmering transformation of two faces of Models of different texture and complexion.
Calvillo, was just four, when her grandmother, who was coming to visit, asked what she could bring her as a gift, anything that her heart desired. It was not a doll, stuffed animals or bicycle. She requested "lipstick." So when her grandmother arrived in Fremont, California, with a tube of coral lipstick she'd purchased in her native Mexico, Calvillo discovered that applying lipstick was so much fun, she reapplied it every few minutes. Needless to say, that tube didn't last long but her passion for makeup blossomed.
"When you do something you love, even during a 15-hour day, there is flow, it feels like working with a sixth sense, and is as natural as breathing. That's how it feels when I'm doing makeup."
Calvillo's creativity was encouraged by her parents, who gave her a full set of art supplies before she was three. She drew and painted. Rather than buy things, she would go home whip, up a dress, bake her own beads and make jewelry.
"Shopping felt like giving up... I loved the challenge of creating. I could make something out of anything!" She has always embraced change, sought it out, in fact, and moved to Chicago when she was just 18, and worked her way "doing the whole corporate America thing," across Boston, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
"I had started a small marketing firm via internet. I was an entrepreneur wearing a suit but always daydreamed about doing the makeup I saw in fashion magazines." She began to make time to follow her passion.
Self-trained in makeup, her early experiences were not high profile; she sought out photographers and stylists who were just starting out.
But a day at a mall in Hartford, Connecticut changed everything for Calvillo.
"I saw a VIVA GLAM ad with Mary J Blige and Elton John at a M�A�C store. Music was blasting as I walked by; it was an environment of fun and glamour. I wanted to be part of it. I decided I would start there."
Within two weeks, she was working as an artist at counter and four years later is a Senior Artist based in Miami where,in addition to training artists, she does makeup for magazine editorials, M�A�C events and celebrities.
For feeding her wanderlust, Calvillo does a flurry of fashion shows in New York and Milan � Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte, Costume National and Marni to name a few.
"All my professional training came from M�A�C. Being at counter in a M�A�C environment is the best tool you will ever have as an artist. You have every possible colour, texture and product you need to be a great artist and having different types of people of every ethnicity gives you practice and confidence."
Calvillo said she is inspired by many kinds of beauty but her favourite icon is Cleopatra.
Her philosophy: "I try not to have one. I am open to a creation, any creation. I love beauty makeup but I also find joy in makeup that becomes an expression of art."
