Women in Jazz will take centre stage at The Fiesta Plaza, MovieTowne, Port-of-Spain in the month of April when four of the most exciting jazz voices will perform in the sixth edition of this series.
Jazz is in the air and The Fiesta Plaza at MovieTowne has been supporting the musicians, singers, dancers and all the talented performers of T&T and featuring every Wednesday and Saturday the best of live entertainment that can be found anywhere in the Caribbean.
The Women in Jazz series has over the years brought large crowds to The Plaza, having featured the leading ladies of jazz and this year will feature a number of new voices on the jazz scene.
Krystal Khanye will open this year's Women in Jazz series on April 4 at 8.30 pm. Khanye, who is known primarily for singing rhythm and blues and who incidentally opened for John Legend during the Trinidad leg of his regional tour, will showcase her versatility when she performs a number of seasoned jazz covers.
Barbadian songstress Nikita will take to the stage on April 11. Nikita, who has shared the stage with Patti La Belle at The Barbados Hilton, has also recently performed at the St Vincent Jazz Festival and also at The Naniki Jazz Festival in Barbados.
In 2014, Nikita toured with Machel Montano and his band, adding a soulful sound to some of Montano's mega hits and was last seen on stage at Machel Monday 2015.
Moricia Cagan did not allow a devastating leg injury to crush all her dreams as it opened up an opportunity for her to start writing her own music and performing. She recorded her first single, Deliver Me, which earned her a stop spot in the National Gospel Song Festival in 1997.
Cagan was the lead vocalist in the now defunct band The Divine Echoes and has travelled extensively within China and Malaysia performing in many of the top hotels.
She has also sang female lead for Pelham Goddard & Roots and recently performed with Arturo Tappin at Jazz Artists on the Greens. Women in Jazz 2015 welcomes back Moricia Cagan on Saturday, April 18.
Bringing down the curtain on Women in Jazz 2015 is Camille Comas. Comas, who was the winner of the 2011 Digicel Rising Stars Competition, is now the holder of a BA in Music from the prestigious Florida Memorial University where she was also the resident pianist for the University's Ambassador Chorale and has travelled with the group performing in several European cities. Comas will be accompanied by Jason Dasent on April 25.
All shows are free to the public but dinner reservations are advised by contacting any of The Fiesta Plaza restaurants.
