After the veil and jewelry, the most important accessory for the bride is her bouquet. Apart from their decorative value, bouquets can also be used for added sentimentality, for example: when actress Lauren Conrad (star of The Hills) wed William Tell, in September 2014, she insisted that sweet pea flowers be included in her bouquet since those were the first flowers that Tell gave her.
Even Kate Middleton included "Sweet William" flowers (symbolising "gallantry") into her bouquet as a nod to her Prince. And who could forget... Solange Knowles' ultra-hip wedding to Alan Ferguson, where Solange ditched the idea of carrying a bridal bouquet altogether and attached it to her bicycle!
Here are some ideas thatare trending for 2015:
Jewelled bouquets–Glittering crystals and smooth pearls form the perfect accent against soft petals. We are seeing more bouquets incorporating gems and brooches. These would be especially striking against bridal gowns with little or no embellishment.
Personalisation–Bouquets today now are adorned with family heirlooms, photos, lockets and pearl rosaries, all in a bid for the bride to infuse her personality into her floral accessory.
Garden chic–Modern brides are going the less structured route and opting for bouquets that look casually put together or "just gathered from the garden" look. As a result, more brides are incorporating ferns, berries and flowers with varying textures, colours and shapes.
Ribbons–Brides are now moving away from banded/wrapped stems in favour of long lengths of silk or satin ribbon that cascade from their bouquet.
Pastels–Muted blooms in peach and blush are on trend at the moment, as well as flowers in Pantone's colour of the year for 2015, Marsala–a dusky wine colour that pairs well with pastel shades.
Cascade bouquet–Over-sized, cascading or waterfall bouquets will continue to appear in 2015. These were popular during the period 1910-1930 and made another come-back during the 1980's, fashioned after Princess Diana's own cascading bouquet.
