In continuing its efforts to improve the lives of those in need, the Massy Foundation donated $45,000 to sponsor one of the Adult Literacy Tutors Association (Alta) free Adult Literacy classes at the International School of Port-of-Spain in Westmoorings.
At a recent gathering at Alta's location in Belmont, Massy Foundation director Sandra Welch-Farrell was on hand to present the cheque to Alta's founder and CEO Paula Lucie-Smith, a release said.
Farrell praised the organisation for the tremendous work it has done over the years stating: "The Massy Foundation is privileged to assist in improving the lives of adults through the literacy classes. Reading opens up a whole new world lighting the way to new beginnings."
Lucie-Smith, in her response, said, "The Massy Foundation has been one of our faithful partners for years, sponsoring books. With today's donation, the foundation is supporting one of our bigger classes located in the west of Trinidad."
"Having a sponsor with staying power like the Massy Foundation we are optimistic they will continue to support us in the years to come."
Alta has 50 venues in communities throughout T&T that provide literacy instruction to people 16 years and over. Through its specialised programmes the organisation improves the lives of some 2,000 learners annually in their free community classes.
The organisation, which has been in existence for over 20 years, develops and publishes local adult literacy materials, maintains resource libraries of materials and teaching aids for Alta tutors and also retains a cadre of trained and experienced professional tutors.
