It would be a dream come through for 28-year-old Jeannine Clarke if she gets the opportunity to represent T&T on Europe's biggest talent show, X Factor UK.The Cascade resident has been singing, performing and acting for most of her life. A former member of the Love Movement Choir, she said she entered the competition quite undecidedly.
"I was actually playing fast when I entered the competition," she says with a giggle."For my vacation this year, I planned to just travel and do auditions, so I went online and while surfing the net I came across X Factor's audition site," she explains. The next thing Clarke did was to register herself for auditions. She did it quite certain she would not get a response but to her surprise, she received an e-mail within half hour of registering, detailing her audition dates.
"You could imagine the confusion, because I did not even audition with a video of myself singing or anything like that. I really thought it was a hoax at first, but after checking and double checking I realised it was an authentic Web site."
She adds, "I had checked other sites before like American Idol and The Voice and usually if you are an international entrant you could only get on the show if you were the holder of a green card or living in the US."The former Bishop's Centenary College student is psyched out about the whole thing, but lack of funds can place a damper on this incredible opportunity if she does not find TT$14,000 to cover airfare and hotel accommodation by June 7.
"I am in the process of writing a letter to the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism for sponsorship and I am hoping that they will give me a positive response," says the mother of one.She is also calling on the public to help her make this break possible.Clarke says an account will be set up within the next week at a bank where people can randomly contribute to her raising the funds that she needs.
