The Digicel Foundation recently announced the four winners of the Extraordinary T&T Art Competition, which ran from February 18 to March 16 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the city of Port-of-Spain.The aim of the mural competition was to complement and beautify the Nelson Mandela POS City Corporation/Digicel Foundation Play and Fitness Zone that was officially launched in 2013, a release said.
Selected from a pool of 13 talented participants, the four lucky winners- Candice Sobers, artist; Richard Rampersad, artist and art teacher at St Francois Girls' College; Izia Lindsay, freelance artist and Sherree Ann Kissoon, Engineering student at the UTT–won a total of $16,000 in cash prizes and will have their artwork displayed in the park by the end of May.
Their work was judged based on four criteria: inspiration, imagination, creativity and relevance to the theme, that is, how the artwork depicts T&T as Extraordinary.
Presenting the winners with their prizes and congratulating them for their great work were Deputy Mayor of Port of Spain, Kerron Valentine; Digicel's CEO, Sacha Thompson; Senior Engineer at the Port of Spain City Corporation, Ricardo Revenales; Digicel Foundation's CEO Penny Gomez and Digicel Foundation's Board Member, Juliet Wilson.
