If there is one foot soldier who continues to struggle for local culture and artistes with stoic determination he is David Baptiste. The heartthrob of The Majors, a popular group of brothers back in the day, has embarked on a series of live Wednesday night calypso shows, themed Calypso Rising, at De Nu Pub, Woodbrook.
Baptiste said last weekend: "Wednesday night live entertainment is back with a bang, bigger brighter and better at the Mas Camp.
"With the advent of the Calypso Rising Concert Series, I will be presenting a cast of top local artistes performing all the hits and calypso classics.
"I have enhanced this series of concerts against the backdrop of a high quality sound system, laser lighting stage design and a classy ambience with beautiful decor."
Baptiste added: "The concert series is designed to do exactly what the theme song suggests, to take the calypso music to the mountain through high quality. Presentations will be produced every Wednesday night from 8.30 pm."
This week's edition of Calypso Rising highlights four-time National Calypso Monarch Weston "Cro Cro" Rawlins up close and personal, with pan musician/ arranger Ken "Professor" Philmore, and Neil "Ablebele" Baptiste for a special extempore face off with Mark "Contender" John.
