As Alta prepares for annual student registration on September 8 and 9 at libraries across Trinidad, we revisit the message of our anti-stigma campaign–No Shame. Go Brave. You Can Read–by sharing writing from students who benefited from the Alta programme this past year. This week, three students write about the impact Alta has had on their job opportunities and personal progress.
"Alta helps me in several ways to improve myself in different areas by preparing me for the world of work. It benefits me by helping me to improve in my reading, spelling, penmanship and in my grammar. It makes me build a foundation by being a role model in my community. It also makes me progressive and confident in myself by achieving my goals. Alta also gives me the ability to give back a contribution by sharing my knowledge with my peers in my community.
Thanks to the sponsors for their contribution to literacy in our society. Their assistance gives us the confidence to progress and I feel responsible to succeed in appreciation."

"I think Alta does good work. Coming to Alta makes me feel different about myself. I start to know how to read. It is a nice feeling when I work and my jobs come on the screen, I have to watch the screen to read what is on it. Thanks sponsors for just knowing that someone else is interested in my education make me feel good about Alta.

"Alta has helped me in many ways. If I am to start from the beginning, I did not know how to put words together. I spelled as I talked not even knowing that there were spelling rules. It also helped me to control my anger after going through Level 2 and knowing the way to control my anger. My vocabulary improved a whole lot.
I am able to focus for longer periods and I have come to the point where I love doing it. For me, it is a transforming experience and empowerment of myself and it is my desire to go as far as I can. I extend my heartfelt and warmest appreciation to all the sponsors that made it happen. I just say to you all, keep up with the good work. God bless."
