The National Trust of T&T will present Vintage Calypso on Nelson Island featuring Lord Superior, in commemoration of Calypso History Month. This event takes place from 3 pm to 7 pm on October 31 and transport is provided from Pier 1 Chaguaramas, boarding at 2.15 pm, a release said.
Lord Superior whose name is Andrew Marcano was born in Rio Claro. He was given his sobriquet by the Mighty Spoiler and Lord Melody, two great calypso bards. In 1954 he came to Port-of-Spain and began his career, and was believed to be the youngest calypsonian at that time in T&T.
"Supie" as he is fondly called, started singing calypso at age 16 with the Victory Calypso Tent in PoS. Thereafter, he began performing at the Young Brigade Calypso Tent in 1956. His fellow calypsonians would have included the Mighty Sparrow and King Fighter. In 2014, Lord Superior celebrated his diamond jubilee in calypso. Lord Superior is multi-talented as he is a composer, guitarist and singer and also known for his extempo performances.
