Four months after accessing a Digicel Foundation Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) grant, the community transformation committee (CTC) along with other key stakeholders, unveiled the completed Frank Porter Community Play Park on August 19.
The US$5,000 grant for the project covered the replacement of the fence, landscaping, a light paint job, installation of two bins and a project sign.
As he addressed the gathering at the unveiling of the Digicel Foundation's extraordinary projects in the Dibe/Belle Vue/Dundonald Hill communities, community icon Frank Porter offered a heartfelt prayer: "I pray for the safety of our nation's children and those who will use this park."
Porter who had provided initial funding for the play park equipment over ten years ago, was delighted to witness the progress of the park and was humbled on hearing that the community group–headed by president Asa Pesnell–dedicated the park's name in his honour.
He also applauded the efforts of the CTC and Digicel Foundation and urged other communities to create more outdoor spaces for children.
Other community partners included the Citizen Security Programme, Social Justice Assumption and the Diego Martin Regional Corporation through the councillor, who were all instrumental in the final touches of the park.
Digicel Foundation also partnered with SFX, Vantage View Ltd and Rene Audio Sounds to initiate their Epic programme that will run for one year, with the aim of providing small grants to 30 communities throughout T&T.
