Peter London, Trinidadian professional dancer, choreographer, distinguished professor and artistic director of the Peter London Global Dance Company, returns home to join the Metamorphosis Dance Company in its dance season for 2017.

Two of a Kind: two dance companies…one great show is the title of this year’s presentation, and according to a release from the organisers, it promises to be a fusion of exciting dance.

London grew up on Laventille Road and started dancing at 12 with Esau Frazer. In 1976 he joined Felix Harington at the Barataria Best Village Group, becoming artistic director in 1979. He was a protégé of Astor Johnson and danced locally and internationally with Johnson’s Repertory Dance Theatre of T&T. London also studied classical ballet at Caribbean School of Dancing Ltd under the direction of Patricia Roe.

London has had great professional success in the United States. In 1987, he received the first Martha Hill Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership in Dance upon graduating with honours from the Juilliard School. He studied at the Alvin Ailey School on a special scholarship from Ailey and has taught and choreographed at the Ailey School since 1990. London also toured internationally with the Jose Limon Dance Company and from 1988-1997 was a principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, where he now serves as a régisseur (stage director) and associate artistic senior consultant for international engagements.

In 2003, London received his Associate of Arts degree from Miami-Dade College and a 2005 BFA Degree in Dance with honours from University of Florida/MDC/New World School of the Arts. He is a Distinguished Professor at Miami Dade College/New World School of the Arts where he has choreographed and taught since 1987.

In 2010, London founded the Peter London Global Dance Company. The company is artist-in-residence at The Little Haiti Cultural Center, Miami, and is an arts partner at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and Miramar Cultural Center/Arts Park, in Ft Lauderdale. He has choreographed over 90 ballets.

Two of a Kind featuring PLGDC and Metamorphosis will take place from April 27 to April 30 at Queen’s Hall, St Anns.
