A new Carnival Queen Show-The Gathering 2011-is scheduled for Saturday, at the Naparima Bowl, San Fernando at 8 pm. This show, organised by Carivog International, is proposed to be an annual community activity, and for 2011 it will benefit some of the organisations that work for the development of youth in the city of San Fernando. The main aim of this show is the holistic development of young women between the ages of 18-28, providing them with personal development training and the winner with an intercultural relation opportunity to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Miss Progress International in Italy.
Miss Progress International is the evolution of the classic beauty contest that usually rewards only the appearance of a girl. The title Miss Progress refers to the concept of progress which must be tied to values that are important and indispensable. For this reason, each participant is required to submit their ideas and their project dedicated to one of the following-integration of cultures, environment, health or human rights. The concept of the local event is to bring the people of T&T together in a community spirit, to enjoy a production which has all the elements of Carnival-beauty, costumes, calypso, and steelpan-at a price that is affordable.
The event has the support of all the main Carnival band leaders in the southland, among them Lionel Jagessar and Associates, Ivan Kalicharan Masquerades, Owen Hinds Carnival Promotion, Zionool Mohammed, Fire Works Promotion, We People International, Pan Mas Traditions, Gregory Nurse and Associates, and Jackie Koon How. South beauticians too have lent their support. Jagdeo Beauty Salon, Pearls Beauty Salon, Hair We Are, Joans Beauty Salon and Patterson Nelson will give the delegates the fashion look of 2011 to complement their fabulous evening gowns.
The evening of The Gathering will be filled with Trini beauties parading in beautiful costumes and evening gowns, along with prime entertainment of calypso, steel pan and creative dances by the Arawak Dance Group. Tickets are available from to the southern division of The Girl Guides Association, The Boy Scout Association, The Trinidad & Tobago Cadet Force, Carivog International (340-5288), and Naparima bowl on the day of the show.
