Ah tell allyuh ah growing back de hair eh? Well I am. But when ah tell allyuh is pressuh. Leh meh preface though. When I was 18, meh hair was long. Dong meh back long. Den ah didn't know how to use ah flat iron, blow dryer nuttin so.
I had gorgeous, curly locks, which I always appreciated but never flaunted. Back in a ponytail or a bun. People always made fuss about my hair but me not so much. Then I wasn't that girly in my dressing habits not that I am now apart from the make up and the five-inch heels.
By the time ah hit 19, I chopped it off. And hear nah, because I knew I would get resistance from any hairdresser, ah ask ah fren on campus to chop it for meh. Well at least the majority of the pony tail. So de only way to fix it is to cut it short, short, short. Hear nah of all de tings we say in we Trini speak, the rule of three is meh favourite. Come nah gyul, quick, quick, quick. Dat cake sweet, sweet, sweet eh? I digress. So reach by de hairdresser who cuss meh fuh not coming een as opposed tuh letting meh fren cut meh tresses. Oh well. A few hours later, I sat at reception, waiting fuh meh boyfriend (who is now meh husband). Ah pass tuh check him nah and show him meh new do. Well mankind pass meh straight. He didn't look too pleased nah. Ha ha! Poor fella. Seventeen years later, he real accustomed to me and meh hair.
So ah kept it short for a few years and then attempted to grow it back as we was getting married. So ah figured ah little hair to match de dress would go down good. Ah drew de line at ah veil. So wedding bells rang and hair was swishing all over the place. Dis was when ah was 22.
Ah kept it shoulder length for a while and then eventually went for a full grown back. Hair so long, ah sitting on it. And meh hair thick eh! De length ah de girth ah dat pony tail not easy nah. Ah buss all kinda hair tie all over de place. Ah digressing again. Allyuh keep meh focused nah! So de hair start getting long, long, long. During the growth journey, ah decided to buss and venture to de outtah international.
Now ah telling yuh all ah dis because it hit me de other day dat ah never really had long, long hair as an adult and lived in Trinidad ie home nah. So when ah was complaining (tuh mehself in de mirror of course!) dat dis hair growing process have meh hot. If ah want to shave off meh head now, how ah go feel when it long and flowing?! Stueps.
When ah had de mane in London, it didn't bother me one bit. Why? Cause even in the three days of heat from the year, I was never hot, hot, hot. And hear nah, frizz? Wah's dat? Cause yuh know by dis time ah grown. Ah perfeck de art of flat iron, round brush (which sounds much rude than it really is!), blow dryer, hair clip and all kinda women's hair paraphernalia.
And hear nah, meh hair routine was every Sunday. Bout lunch time so, ah would start. Wash. Condition. Last water tuh touch de hair ice cold. Close de hair pores nah. No chemicals in de hair so it healthy. And thick. Blow dry meticulously, piece by piece. Den ah thorough iron with meh GHD. Allyuh eh kno bout GHD? Den allyuh never get ah good iron, truss meh! Four hours later, meh hair was perfectly straight. By now it's almost five. Just enough time for me take ah walk up King's Road and get ah Starbucks. The cold breeze would always feel so awesome through my hair.
Now ah making it sound like it made having long hair easy. Ah still buss ah cut in she tail (yes my hair is a person a woman too!), and I genuinely haven't had long hair since like a year or two before ah had the boy. So like 2006 so.
Well the mane is coming back and I wondering how ah go cope. Because it nearly ready to be the world's smallest pony tail ever and I try ah blow dry and iron weekend gone and ah couldn't take it. But ah I eh giving up.
So fingers crossed by next year yuh go see meh pony tail swishing wit meh as ah buss ah three laps on de QPS. But enough ah dat. Tomorrow is meh birthday!!!!! 36 ah reach allyuh and still feel ah 12. Keep good. Till next week....tweet meh (mimieng77) if yuh need me.
