T&T celebrates in India

THE T&T High Commission in New Delhi, India, celebrated T&T’s Independence Day with a gala dinner in the Indian capital.
Pundit Maniedeo Persad, T&T’s High Commissioner to India, and his wife, Rohini Persad, hosted Ashwini Kumar, the Indian Government Minister of Industry of India, as the chief guest.
Urvashi Ramnarine, T&T’s deputy High Commissioner to India, said the programme was a packed one that included the launch of a steelpan CD by the Nada Sangama Orchestra out of Chase Village in central Trinidad.
Ramnarine said guests from T&T and India were treated to a pictorial and video display of T&T’s multi-ethnic, multi-cultural talents.
She said Kumar especially enjoyed these features and admitted that it was the first time he realised that T&T had so many beauty queens in world contests.
“Minister Kumar congratulated the country on its national day and praised the country for maintaining a stable democracy and sustaining the high degree of economic growth and diversity in recent years,” said Ramnarine.
“Minister Kumar also extended appreciation for High Commissioner Persad’s efforts in deepening and strengthening bilateral relations between T&T and India, and complimented the High Commissioner on the recent awards he has received by Indian organisations in recognition of his activities.”
Ramnarine said Persad’s address focused on the recent budget presentation delivered by Prime Minister Patrick Manning. Persad placed emphasis on T&T’s continued growth and expansion of the economy.
She said: “The High Commissioner also spoke on the initiatives of the High Commission in strengthening T&T-India relations over the last three years.” A commemorative magazine published by the High Commission for Independence Day was also released.
