Stewart goes after second gold in discus today

Af­ter a record break­ing per­for­mance in the javelin last week, T&T's Akeem Stew­art will go af­ter an­oth­er gold medal and world record to­day in the F43/44 Men's dis­cuss throw at the Olympic Sta­di­um, at the Par­a­lympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Low­lands To­ba­go ath­lete who broke two world records on his way to vic­to­ry last week in the men's javelin event with a dis­tance of 57.32 me­tres, will face a com­pet­i­tive field from 3.50 pm T&T time that will com­prise Chris Bardy Boues­so of Con­go, David Blair and Je­re­my Camp­bell of the Unit­ed States; Croa­t­ia's Josip Sli­var and Ivan Katanu­sic; Dan Greaves of Great Britain; Gerd­abn Fon­se­ca of Cu­ba; Adri­an Ma­tusik of Slo­va­kia and Es­to­nia's Egert Joe­saar.

Stew­art who will be will be the lone F43 par­tic­i­pant in the men's fi­nal to­day, has been the on­ly T&T ath­lete to mount the podi­um for T&T to date, af­ter Nyoshia Cain was dis­qual­i­fied in the Women's 200 me­tres T44 for a lane vi­o­la­tion, de­spite fin­ish­ing third in the race.

Swim­mer Shan­tol Ince has al­so failed to repli­cate her per­for­mances the 400 me­tres freestyle S9, 50 me­tres freestyle and 100 me­tres freestyle.

Stew­art's fa­ther Wayne Stew­art said re­cent­ly that his son is yet to pro­duce his best, say­ing he awaits to­day's per­for­mance to see will hap­pen.
