Two police officers have been warned to have no contact with a man who has alleged that they stole money from him.
The warning was given to Police Constables Shazard Ali, 29, and Sadeeq Hosein, 27, as a condition of their bail when they appeared in the Chaguanas Magistrates Court on Monday charged with misbehaviour in public office.
The officers who were attached to the Cunupia Police Station at the time of the allegation were granted $100,000 surety bail by a Justice of the Peace at the Central Police Station on Saturday.
They were arrested last Thursday following investigations by the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) into allegations made by Muhammed Khan.
It is alleged that on August 18 at Warren Road, Cunupia, during a road traffic exercise the police officers stopped Khan's vehicle and during their interaction with him allegedly stole his money - TT$2,500 and US$1,300.
They were charged on Saturday by Cpl Mitchell of the PSB. Ali who has been in the service for eight years and Hosein who has four years service appeared before First Court Magistrate Adrian Darmanie jointly charged with the offence.
Ali was represented by attorney Shiva Boodoo while Hosein was represented by attorney Taradath Singh. Prosecutor WSgt Soodeen did not object to the bail but asked for conditions. The magistrate did not vary the bail but ordered the officers to have no contact either directly or indirectly with Khan.
The matter was adjourned to February 18.
