A 10-year-old girl is now at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after she was shot by a gunman who opened fire on her stepfather's car this afternoon.
Investigators told Guardian Media that around 4 pm Ian Worrell, also known as "Chinee" from Pleasant Terrace, John John Laventille, was driving his vehicle along Independence Square near the corner of Duncan Street when a gunman in a black hoodie approached his car.
The gunman fired at least three shots in the direction of Worrell and ran off. Worrell drove his vehicle to nearby police officers on mobile patrol and later discovered that his stepdaughter had been shot in the back.
The little girl was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was treated.
Only last week gunmen had opened fire near the Providence Girls Catholic School in Belmont in which one man was shot but managed to escape his attackers.
Three students who were in the Toyota Hilux that was shot up by his attackers escaped serious injury.
