Seventeen Venezuelan nationals, including a woman and a child, were detained by the Moruga police during a crackdown yesterday morning.
It is uncertain whether the foreigners are here legally but up to late yesterday they were being interviewed by teams from the Immigration department.
The T&T Guardian was informed that the Venezuelans were picked up by police in the La Lune area. They were then asked to provide documentation showing they were here legally. Some of the foreigners were unable to immediately provide the documents and they were then taken into the station.
Chief Immigration Officer Charmaine Ghandi-Andrews could not be reached for comment yesterday as calls to her cellular phone went unanswered.
