Eighteen people were arrested and four firearms, along with quantities of ammunition and narcotics, were seized during State of Emergency operations in the Southern, South Western and Port of Spain Divisions yesterday.
The Southern Division operations, dubbed “Summer Slam”, were coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police Benjamin, ACP Mystar and Snr Supt Simon, and supervised by Supt Jaikaran, ASP Ramsaran, ASP Morales, Insp Wilkinson, Insp Ragbir and Insp Alexander. They involved officers from the Guard and Emergency Branch, the Inter-Agency Task Force, the Canine Branch, the Municipal Police, Traffic Wardens and Licensing Officers.
The exercises, conducted between 4 am and 6 pm on Wednesday 30th July 2025, led to the arrest of 12 suspects for offences including possession of ammunition, larceny, driving without a permit and State of Emergency-related enquiries. Officers also issued 142 Fixed Penalty Notices to errant motorists.
In the San Fernando district, an intelligence-led operation between 7 pm and 11 pm resulted in the arrest of two suspects for possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of cannabis.
Meanwhile, South Western Division officers arrested four suspects in the Penal district around 1:30 pm after they were found with a shotgun and five cartridges.
Inter-Agency Task Force officers also conducted State of Emergency exercises yesterday, seizing a rifle, a pistol, quantities of ammunition, cannabis and cocaine in Belmont, George Street Plannings and Upper Santa Cruz.
Those operations were led by ACP Hazel, Snr Supt Spence, Supt Ramsook and acting ASP Singh.
Police say investigations are continuing into all the incidents.
