Two men attached to the Carapo Mosque have been charged in relation to the kidnapping and assault of a Princes Town man.
The men are set to appear before an Arima Magistrate Tuesday afternoon charged with false imprisonment, assault by beating, robbery with violence and kidnapping.
It is alleged that last Wednesday, the man beat the victim at the Carapo Mosque, demanded his car keys and placed in the back of the car and subsequently left him at the O’meara Industrial Estate.
The man had reportedly gone to the mosque to meet Imam Hassan Ali last Wednesday, following which he took the two accused to a place in Trincity.
On their way back to Carapo, it is alleged the men began making threats to the victim and began hitting him on his shoulder. On arriving at the mosque, the man was allegedly ordered to hand over the keys to his car before being tied up and placed in a room by the accused. In the room, the victim was allegedly beaten and interrogated before he was placed in a car and dropped off at O’meara.
The victim made a report at the Chaguanas Police Station last Thursday and police took the men in custody, along with four others, including Imam Ali, last Saturday. Ali was released from custody on Monday without being charged.
The men were charged earlier Tuesday after being identified during an ID parade.
