Two men were killed in separate shootings in Mt Hope on Monday.
They were identified as Kylon Joseph, 25, of Mt Hope Road, Mt Hope and Shane “Jacko” Jackson, 42, of Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots.
In the first incident at 10.05 am on Monday, officers from the North Eastern Division Support Unit were on mobile patrol when they received a report of loud explosions at Mt Hope Road, Mt Hope.
Upon checking, they found Joseph lying on his stomach in a pool of blood in the vicinity of Petrona’s Mini Mart.
He had been shot in the head and about the body.
Joseph was wearing a black jersey with a brown curtain draped across his lower torso.
Three 9 mm spent shell casings were found close to his body.
And in the second incident around 2.43 pm on Monday, Jackson, a mason by trade, was killed while working at a house at Mt Hope Road, Mt Hope.
Responding to a call that gunshots had been heard coming from a house in the area, officers of the North Eastern Division Emergency Response Unit arrived to find Jackson bleeding from several wounds.
They handed him over to their counterparts from the North Eastern Division Task Force who took the victim to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Although Jackson underwent emergency treatment, he succumbed to his injuries around 3.18 pm.
Reports said the homeowner was preparing a meal in the kitchen around 2 pm and Jackson was installing a doorframe in a bathroom located on the opposite side of the house, when loud explosions were heard, prompting the woman to run to her bedroom and hide.
Upon checking a short while later, she found Jackson lying on the bathroom floor suffering from several wounds.
She contacted the police who took the injured man to hospital.
A check of the premises revealed a gold chain and TT$3,000 in cash missing.
Two 7.62 mm spent shells were collected at the scene.
Police have labelled the two killings as gang-related.
