Two mo­tor­cy­clists died in sep­a­rate road traf­fic ac­ci­dents just hours apart yes­ter­day morn­ing.

The first crash oc­curred around 5 am along the Churchill-Roo­sevelt High­way near Peake’s Gas Sta­tion in Co­corite.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the rid­er lost con­trol of the mo­tor­cy­cle and col­lid­ed with a ve­hi­cle.

He was thrown on­to the road­way and died at the scene.

The west­bound lanes were tem­porar­i­ly shut down, caus­ing traf­fic con­ges­tion dur­ing the morn­ing rush hour. Po­lice have not yet re­leased his iden­ti­ty.

A sec­ond fa­tal crash fol­lowed just af­ter 7 am along the Cu­mu­to Main Road.

The vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as 42-year-old Keone Brath­waite of Ch­agua­nas, a mo­tor ve­hi­cle of­fi­cer with the Min­istry of Works and In­fra­struc­ture.

Po­lice said Brath­waite was in­volved in a head-on col­li­sion with an SUV. Footage cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia ap­pears to show the SUV over­tak­ing a truck be­fore en­ter­ing his lane.

He was thrown in­to near­by bush­es and died at the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in­to both in­ci­dents.

The Min­istry of Trans­port and Civ­il Avi­a­tion ex­tend­ed con­do­lences on Brath­waite’s pass­ing via a press re­lease.

The min­istry de­scribed Brath­waite as serv­ing with ded­i­ca­tion, pro­fes­sion­al­ism and com­mit­ment to the trans­port sec­tor, and ex­tend­ed sym­pa­thy to his fam­i­ly, friends and col­leagues dur­ing what it called a dif­fi­cult time.
