The autopsy, conducted by Dr Dawal Williams at the San Fernando mortuary, revealed that Ramjugsingh died from hypovolemic secondary shock caused by a rush injury accident which triggered rib fracture and liver rupture.
Hypovolemic shock is an emergency condition in which severe blood and fluid loss make the heart unable to pump enough blood to the body. This type of shock can cause many organs to stop working. Ramjugsingh's daughter, Shelly, declined to comment on the autopsy results, saying they did not want any more publicity. She said her mother, Lorna, was resting and could not be disturbed. Ramjugsingh's employer, Trinrico's managing director Ajile Bahadursingh, said yesterday investigations were continuing into the accident.
He said his company would pay for Ramjugsingh's funeral which may take place this weekend. Officials from the OSH Agency, as well as the police, are continuing investigations into the death. Ramjugsingh, 55, of Fieldview Drive, Lumsden, died after midday on Tuesday after a a forklift pinned him to the ground. Witnesses said he was directing a truck when the forklift pinned him. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Fernando General Hospital. PC Sookhai, of the Gasparillo Police Station, is continuing investigations.
