Central Division Police are investigating the death of a schoolboy who drowned after jumping into a man-made pool in an abandoned Housing Development Corporation site. Police said Isiah Rivers, 16, of Tulip Avenue, Carapichaima, went with his friends to the site, known as Wyaby, shortly after 10 am.
Witnesses said Rivers dived head-first into the man-made pool but got stuck in mud. His friends jumped into the pool after him and managed to pull out his body. Attempts were made to resuscitate him.
Paramedics from the Emergency Health Service arrived on the scene and rushed Rivers to the Couva District Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Rivers was a Form Four student of the Carapichaima East Secondary School.
