Communications Workers Union (CWU) president Joseph Remy says the CWU will not engage in any media spat with former CWU secretary Lyle Townsend. Townsend publicly criticised Remy, CWU general secretary John Julien and Senator David Abdulah yesterday morning on the Dale and Tony radio programme on I95.5 FM. He said the union had fallen into disrepair and accused the current executive of no longer caring about the state of the union nor the happiness of the workers it represented.
In an interview yesterday, Remy said the CWU did not want to comment on Townsend's interview. Remy said when the time was right the union would issue an appropriate response. During the interview Remy made it clear Townsend would no longer be referred to as "Brother Townsend" and called him "Mr" instead. Abdulah, when contacted yesterday, said he had nothing to say at the time.(AL)
