"Recycling can actually create new employment for the citizens of T&T." So said Congress of the People's (COP) deputy political leader Wendy Lee Yuen at the launch of Plastikeep, at COP's Flagship House, Broom Street, Woodbrook, on Tuesday. Plastikeep is a Government-funded environmental and community building pilot project which addresses the mounting problem of plastic waste and the lack of consciousness surrounding its proper disposal.
Lee Yuen said: "You know we have to learn how to turn trash into treasure. With recycling we are not only looking at keeping T&T green but with this project many can find employment. "There will be need for collection of the waste, sorting, transporting and if we are talking about actually turning our recycles into new items, there will be sales and distribution and so on. She added that the population of T&T must recognise the four Rs–reduce, re-use, recycle and restore-when thinking of the environment. "Plastikeep is just one of the many projects we hope to develop over a period of time to get citizens to realise how to enjoy and love the environment," Lee Yuen said.
