Former House Speaker Barendra Sinanan is dismissing reports that he will contest the general secretary post in next year's People's National Movement's (PNM) executive elections. "Those reports are untrue...I am not contesting any post in any PNM elections," he insisted. "Nobody contacted me to determine if the claims were true," he added.
Sinanan served as Speaker from October 17, 2002, to December 16, 2007, and again from December 17, 2007, to June 13, 2010. He served as Member of Parliament for San Fernando West from November 27, 1995, to November 3, 2000. He said he resigned from the PNM after he became Speaker. He insists he is "not a member of the PNM or any other political party."
