For­mer Miss World, Giselle LaRonde-West was among the out­stand­ing karatekas at the Shotokan Karate-do In­ter­na­tion­al Fed­er­a­tion of T&T (SKIFTT) na­tion­al tour­na­ment at the do­jo De­cem­ber 13. Laronde-West shared the Samu­rai Cup award for the ath­lete up­hold­ing the essence of karate-do with Dr Re­nee Sandy.

Adam Tang Nian was ad­judged the most out­stand­ing karate­ka at the tour­na­ment. He re­ceived the Guardian Hold­ings Chal­lenge Tro­phy as his award. In the fi­nals, 30 karatekas com­pet­ed with judges com­ing from Goshin­do Karate Do­jo led by 6th Dan Sen­sei An­tho­ny Syd­ney and his pro­fes­sion­al black belt ref­er­ees, in­clud­ing Maris­sa Syd­ney who is the high­est ranked fe­male ref­er­ee in T&T.
