Berg­er Paints Trinidad Ltd is known for its qual­i­ty and tech­ni­cal­ly sound prod­ucts and has been de­liv­er­ing qual­i­ty ar­chi­tec­tur­al and in­dus­tri­al coat­ings to the cit­i­zens of T&T since 1962. For more than 15 years, Berg­er has been an­nu­al­ly spon­sor­ing prizes to stu­dents in the Physics and Chem­istry fac­ul­ties at the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies.

At a re­cent grad­u­a­tion cer­e­mo­ny, Berg­er award­ed two grad­u­ates for best per­for­mance in physics and chem­istry in Year II in the Fac­ul­ty of Sci­ence and Agri­cul­ture, with a cheque each val­ued at $1,000. Aneke Salazar, a Fi­nal Year stu­dent in the De­part­ment of Chem­istry, re­ceived the Berg­er Paints award for the best Year II per­for­mance in chem­istry. Aneke, 21, who lives with her par­ents and old­er broth­er in Ch­agua­nas, at­tend­ed St Fran­cois Girls' Col­lege. She hopes to ei­ther com­plete her mas­ters in chem­istry or at­tain her bach­e­lors de­gree in phar­ma­cy at Mona, Ja­maica.

Ju­dith Balkissoon, al­so a fi­nal year stu­dent, re­ceived her award for the best Year II per­for­mance in physics.Ju­dith, who is 21 years old, at­tend­ed Na­pari­ma Girls High School and lives in Rio Claro. She is the third sib­ling in a fam­i­ly of three. Af­ter com­plet­ing fi­nal-year stud­ies, Ju­dith plans to take a break and teach. Lat­er on she hopes to pur­sue her mas­ters in elec­tri­cal en­gi­neer­ing and then mas­ters in phi­los­o­phy.
