National cyclist Jude Codrington, who is facing two armed robbery charges, has been granted $25,000 bail.
Yesterday, Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington, presiding in the San Fernando First Court, granted bail after attorney Jason Jackson was relentless in his application for the 21-year-old to be released in time for Christmas. Jackson went so far as to even offer to sing a Christmas carol for the court if it meant his client would get a chance at a lower sum of bail.
Wellington, however, who chuckled at the offer, said, "$20,000 cash alternative is the best I can do."
Codrington, who competed for the national cycling team at various events, is employed as a tradesman assistant. Wellington placed Codrington on $25,000 bail to be approved by a Clerk of the Peace. Wellington also granted $20,000 cash alternative bail. Codrington will reappear in court on December 31.
