Three teenagers, accused of kidnapping a man and robbing him of his Nissan Almera valued $40,000, were denied bail when they appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington yesterday. Abdul Khalid, 18, Sunil Ali,18, and Ishmael Ali, 19, appeared before the San Fernando First Court Magistrate, charged with the two indictable offences. The trio, who gave different addresses from those given to the police, were charged with robbing Ganesh Dwarika of his Nissan Almera and a gold band valued $2,000.
They were also jointly charged with stealing and carrying away Dwarika against his will. Both offences occurred on December 23, at Claxton Bay. The charges were laid indictably by PC Khan, of the St Margaret's Police Station.
The prosecutor, attorney Ramdath Phillip, did not make any recommendations. Khalid claimed he resided at Five Rivers, Arouca, while Sunil Ali said he lived Arima. Ishmael Ali said he lived San Juan. Wellington, however, said according to the police information, they all reside at La Canoa Road, Santa Cruz. The three accused claimed that they only stayed in Santa Cruz. The magistrate refused them bail and ordered that their addresses be verified before he considered bail. He also asked about the condition of the victim. Phillip said Dwarika was hospitalised and was awaiting a CT scan, because of injuries he sustained during the incident. Wellington adjourned the matter to January 5.
