The national flag would be flown at half mast in respect of Sir Ellis Clarke's passing. This instruction came from National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy who said that from 11 am yesterday, flags at all government buildings would be flown at half mast until the day of the funeral in keeping with proper flag protocol. A date has not yet been announced for the funeral.
Sir Ellis was this country's first president and the second Governor General. According to the rules and etiquette governing the national flag, it should be flown at half mast on the day of the death and funeral of the President, Prime Minister, Senate President, House Speaker, members of Cabinet, other notable citizens or otherwise prescribed by the National Security Minister.
