A 32-year-old Jamaican national has been jailed for 15 months for drug trafficking. Tamara Williams was arrested by police on Wednesday night at Piarco International Airport after officers of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau held her with 3113.1 grammes of marijuana which had an estimated value of $60,000.
She pleaded guilty yesterday and was sentenced by senior Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes. In a separate incident, Gary Sankar, 24, of Cocorite Road, Arima, was sentenced to nine months in jail for drug trafficking. Officers of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau claimed they seized 15 kilogrammes of marijuana valued at $300,000 on Wednesday at Sankar's home. He was jailed by senior Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes. (CC)
