Grenada Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean who attended the State funeral for Sir Ellis Clarke at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port-of-Spain (NAPA), said relations between his country and T&T were too close to stay away. Glean spoke with the T&T Guardian shortly after the service.
"Given the number of Grenadians living in T&T, we felt that Grenada had to be represented at the funeral. So Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada, we're very close in terms of the two peoples," the Governor General said.
He said he was considered to be the best Grenadian representative to attend the funeral because of the status of Sir Ellis, the last Governor General and first President of T&T. Sir Carlyle described Sir Ellis as "an outstanding jurist, lawyer and statesman. So he's someone I look upon as an icon and an outstanding exemplar."
