A 23 year-old man is expected to appear before a Couva magistrate this morning charged with the slayings of infant Shomari Lewis-Pelage and his father WASA employee Sheldon "Cockers" Lewis-Pelage.The suspect, of Dow Village, California, was detained last Friday.Last evening, investigators sought instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to press charges.
Lewis-Pelage, 32, of Main Road, Dow Village, California and four year-old Shomari, a pre-schooler of Hanifa Aziz' Early Childhood Centre, were shot and killed at their home last Thursday night.Lewis-Pelage's wife Falami, 29, was shot in the foot as she tried to escape the rampaging gunmen. The couple's five other children managed to escape unhurt during the ordeal.
Police reports indicate that gunmen went on the rampage in the quiet community around 12 am when they shot up houses in the area, including Lewis-Pelage's wooden dwelling.The gunmen had earlier attacked Lewis-Pelage's brother's (Damian) home on nearby Ninth Street Extension, New Settlement, Dow Village.
