Bear with us. That's the appeal to the public from Minister in National Security Subhas Panday who acknowledges that the public wants immediate solutions on crime. Speaking in the Senate yesterday, Panday said the Government was working hard in that direction. Dealing with debate on the Firearms Amendment Bill, Panday said "these are crisis times" which required severe legislation.
He said the recently-reported decrease in crime after eight years of PNM government is of some comfort. Panday chided PNM senator Fitzgerald Hinds for his criticisms and questions to National Security Minister John Sandy on the crime situation. "What sort of brass face does Hinds have when the PNM didn't deal with crime!" Panday said, adding that the PNM feted and fed criminals under the guise of community leaders. (GA)
