One third of the world's population lives on less than two US dollars a day. Australian foreign policy is strongly driven by food and energy security and management of climate change. Our government has set us on a path to diplomacy that is supportive of universal human values of the dignity of individuals, and rests on a sense of moral obligation to engage with institutions to protect the most vulnerable among us. This will be my fourth Australia day in Trinidad. We have come a long way in creating people-to-people links between our two nations since my arrival three years back and I hope to build on that. I am delighted I will still be here when Trinidad and Tobago celebrates its 50th anniversary of Independence and wish both our countries the best, even if we are occasional adversaries on the field.
