"I was a trade unionist and I will continue to defend workers," Mc Leod added. Mc Leod said he mandated OSHA to make its priority finalising ten draft regulations and codes and practices. He said although T&T's Occupational Safety and Health legislation was consistent with international standards, the People's Partnership Government would be working with stakeholders to fix several gaps in the legislation. "We are currently in the process of developing a Decent Work Policy and Programme of Action for T&T," he said. He said these policies would better jobs in the sector and have far reaching positive benefits for T&T. He also announced that the OSHA Inspectorate would be expanded by the second quarter of 2011 with 43 additional inspectors being hired.
