"I was a trade union­ist and I will con­tin­ue to de­fend work­ers," Mc Leod added. Mc Leod said he man­dat­ed OS­HA to make its pri­or­i­ty fi­nal­is­ing ten draft reg­u­la­tions and codes and prac­tices. He said al­though T&T's Oc­cu­pa­tion­al Safe­ty and Health leg­is­la­tion was con­sis­tent with in­ter­na­tion­al stan­dards, the Peo­ple's Part­ner­ship Gov­ern­ment would be work­ing with stake­hold­ers to fix sev­er­al gaps in the leg­is­la­tion. "We are cur­rent­ly in the process of de­vel­op­ing a De­cent Work Pol­i­cy and Pro­gramme of Ac­tion for T&T," he said. He said these poli­cies would bet­ter jobs in the sec­tor and have far reach­ing pos­i­tive ben­e­fits for T&T. He al­so an­nounced that the OS­HA In­spec­torate would be ex­pand­ed by the sec­ond quar­ter of 2011 with 43 ad­di­tion­al in­spec­tors be­ing hired.
