Principal of the Diego Martin Central Secondary School Gayle Khan says the school has always been community oriented.She said, too, that she was satisfied with the school's performance over the years.Khan made the statement during the school's 50th anniversary celebrations and an interfaith service held on Friday at St Michael's and All Angels Anglican Church, Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, Diego Martin.
Addressing students and guests at the function, she said the school had always been an institution with positive impact and strong community involvement.On Thursday, with the support of the Fire Service Band, students paraded through parts of Diamond Vale.She said this was in an effort to foster greater awareness of the celebrations.Supervisor III of the Ministry of Education Rohit Dube who also attended the function, said the Diego Martin Central Secondary School could boast about the presence of a strong administration from inception.
Dube also spoke on the schools historical significance saying it was one of the first five secondary schools constructed in T&T when free secondary education was introduced under the leadership of T&T's first prime minister Dr Eric Williams.The school was opened on January 16, 1961 to a student body of 106 and a staff of six teachers and has changed it's name four times during the past 50 years.
